Hormone Replacement Therapy Q & A
What is hormone replacement therapy?
Hormone replacement therapy is a treatment that helps manage the symptoms caused by menopause. It can’t stop menopause, which is the time in your life that signals the end of your fertility, but it can lessen the symptoms that some women find to be life-altering.
Hormone replacement therapy may improve symptoms such as:
- Hot flashes and night sweats
- Vaginal dryness
- Moodiness
Hormone replacement therapy may also improve bone health and protect you from osteoporosis.
What is Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Many women have concerns about hormone replacement therapy because it may increase the risk of breast cancer, heart disease, or blood clots. Dr. Hudson understands your concerns, which is why she offers BioTE hormone replacement therapy.
Hormone Replacement Therapy uses bioidentical hormones, which are plant-based hormones that have been molecularly modified to mimic the actions of your natural hormones. Hormone Replacement Therapy also custom designs your hormone replacement therapy, so you only get the hormones your body needs.
How do I get my custom-designed Hormone Replacement Therapy pellets?
To create your hormone replacement pellet, Dr. Hudson first has you take a hormone balance test, then she takes a sample of your blood, which provides information about your hormone levels. Your blood and hormone balance test are sent to the BioTE lab for analysis and formulation of your hormone pellet.
Once Dr. Hudson has your Hormone Replacement pellet, she has you come to the office for insertion. The procedure itself only takes a few minutes. She begins by first numbing the area of the skin where she plans on placing the pellet, which is usually the buttocks. She then makes a small incision, inserts your hormone pellet, and covers it with a bandage.
It may take up two weeks for you to start to notice a change in your symptoms as your hormones come back into balance. Dr. Hudson has you come to the office regularly so she can monitor your hormone levels and symptoms, and she replaces your pellet as needed.
Can Hormone Replacement pellets help if I am not menopausal?
Because Hormone Replacement pellets are custom designed, Dr. Hudson also uses them to treat various symptoms nonmenopausal women experience, including fatigue, abdominal weight gain, and decreased sex drive. The process for creating and inserting your Hormone Replacement pellet is the same as for menopausal women.
Are there other types of hormone replacement therapy options?
Dr. Hudson is a women’s health expert and knows not one treatment works for all. To help relieve your menopausal symptoms, she offers a number of different hormone replacement options in traditional and natural forms. Many of these hormones can be prescribed as a pill, patch, cream, gel, or spray.
To reduce your risk, she prescribes the lowest dose possible and for the shortest period of time.
